7th February, 1939.

Dear Lord liɛlifax,

I have just had a letter from my son Mark Watson

who was a pa.senger in the Imperial Airways plane "Delia"

when it was shot at from a Japanese warship on 31st

January.

He says that they were quite four miles away

from the Island Weichow at the time and they were only a

few hundred feet up and carried a flag on the wing of the

plane so it was quite impossible that the "apanese did

not identify the plane they were following the usual

route taken three times a week by English planes and twice

a week by French planes.

My son says they were fired at six times one or

two of the shots only just missing them.

I thought a personal account of what actually

happened might be useful.

Yours sincerely,

(Signed) Claire Manton.
